Is Ignorance Really Bliss?

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Romans 1:20-21 (NKJV)
Wow! Have you ever wondered what happens to the people who have never heard God’s word? In some countries, Christianity is not the main religion. The apostle Paul makes it very clear that God has showed his existence to all man since the beginning of time. How?-you ask. Through His eternal power and through His creation. How can you look at the stars, the moon, the animals and all that is around and never believe that there is some entity more powerful than you? You can not have a creation without a Creator and with the Creator comes power.
I believe Paul when he says that everyone receives an opportunity to know the truth based on what God puts before them. Some just choose to reject it by not believing. So how can a person be guilty for rejecting a Savior that they never heard of? I’m glad you asked! Continue reading to Romans 2:12-15.

12For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law 13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; 14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness… (NKJV)
Paul tells us that it is not enough for us to hear God’s word; we also have to be doers of God’s word. To make it plain, I’m not saved by hearing the word of God and I’m not condemned by not hearing God’s word. I’m saved for believing and obeying God’s word. We have an innate knowledge of what is right and wrong. We know by instinct that it is wrong to steal, lie, murder, or commit adultery. How do we know?-Because God placed that in us from the beginning of time.

But don’t be so quick to judge those who don’t believe. It is our calling as Christians to spread “the good news”. Yes, faith comes by hearing and hearing, the word of God. But it’s clear from these scriptures that it is up to each person to believe. We must seek God, not the other way around. Pray for a friend, relative, co-worker, or stranger that is unsaved or un-churched.

May the peace of God be with you all.
